Speaker: Israel Makov, Chairman - Given Imaging, Chairman - Netafim, Former President & CEO, Teva Pharmaceutical Industries, Ltd.

 

Israel Makov is the former President & CEO of Teva Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd., and is widely credited with making the company the world's leader in the generic industry. Since he joined Teva in 1995, Makov led the company's global expansion, managing over 12 acquisitions—including the acquisition of Ivax for $7.8 billion, then the largest M&A deal in Israeli history. During Makov's five year tenure as CEO, the company's sales increased over four-fold, and its adjusted net income increased approximately six-fold. Today, Makov is Chairman of Given Imaging—the pioneer developer and world leading provider of capsule endoscopy and Chairman of Netafim—the global leader in smart irrigation solutions. Formerly, Makov led a number of companies in various industries, including founding Israel's first biotech company, Interpharm, which went public in the US. Makov is a member of the Board of Directors of the Israel National Nanotechnology Initiative, an initiative he also helped found. He is also a member of the Executive Board & Management Committee of the Weizmann Institute of Science, on the Board of Governors of the Technion – Israel Institute of Technology, the Chairman of the Board of the Institute for Policy and Strategy at the Interdisciplinary Center of Herzliya, the President of the Friends of Schneider Children's Medical Center of Israel and also the Chairman of the Friends of Gesher Theatre, one of Israel's leading theaters. Mr Makov holds a B.Sc. in Agriculture and M.Sc. in Economics from the Hebrew University, Jerusalem.
